SUMMARY POSTED BY JEFFREY GALLANT (GEERG) ON TUESDAY JULY 14 AT 03:00 AM.
After making minor repairs on one of our boats, meeting staff at the Quebec Aquarium, and doing several news interviews on the road, we finally arrived at Explos-Nature in the village of Bergeronnes at 6 pm. We immediately departed for Anse-de-Roche, a small community on the Saguenay Fjord, a perpetually dark marine environment where the Greenland shark has often been captured in the dead of winter.

The main objective of the dive which started at sunset, was to document some of the sea life sharing this unique ecosystem with the Greenland shark (Species observed are listed below).
We were very surprised to observe an Atlantic halibut (Hippoglossus hippoglossus) - one of the Greenland shark's favourite prey items in the Saguenay and St. Lawrence. We also encountered several basket stars (Gorgonocephalus sp.) to the great joy of teammember Blaise. The Atlantic halibut and the basket star are both species that are normally found at great depth, often beyond the normal range of scuba divers.
