SUMMARY POSTED BY JEFFREY GALLANT (GEERG) ON FRIDAY JULY 24 AT 06:15 PM.

After searching for the Greenland shark for more than a week, we can confirm that the shark is not presently found at depths accessible by divers. It is either in very deep water or in another sector of the St. Lawrence. Our acoustic receivers are already in position so we will resume tagging operations when our observers in Baie-Comeau spot the first sharks of 2009. We should thus return to the Baie-Comeau area in the coming days or weeks (so stay tuned for more updates!).

Today's diving activities took place in the St. Lawrence off the town of Les Escoumins. The main objective was to continue the study of the Greenland shark's estuarine environment.
