IMPORTANT NOTICE TO DIVERS
UNDERWATER RECEIVERS IN THE BAIE-COMEAU AREA
Share
GEERG has deployed several underwater acoustic receivers in Baie des Anglais and Baie-Saint-Pancrace. These telemetry devices record data transmitted by tagged sharks in this sector. If you encounter any of these receivers during a dive, please do not disturb them or remove them from the water. Each receiver remains underwater for a period of approximately 12 months. This is long enough to allow colonisation by sessile animals such as hydroids, tunicates and bivalves. Even if the receiver is covered in growth, it has not been abandoned. Please leave it underwater. Better yet, note its position and contact us by email (info@geerg.ca) so that we may note any anomalies regarding position and depth.
Note: These devices receive only and thus pose no threat to the health of divers or animals in their proximity. Likewise, the weak electronic signals emitted by the shark transmitters do not pose any
threat to the carrier nor to divers or animals in the area.
Thank you for your collaboration.
